What’s Happening in Surrey this August

The countdown to the end of summer may have started, but it’s not time to put away those flip-flops and sunglasses just yet!  Hot days and warm August nights are the perfect time to get out into Surrey’s natural beauty and celebrate with family and friends.

Surrey Sunflower Festival
August 4 – September 3

Walk through a picturesque sunflower field this summer in Surrey! The inaugural Surrey Sunflower Festival will take place every Thursday to Sunday, starting on August 4 and concluding on September 3rd. $10/ticket (+tax and fees) Tickets are available online and in-person. All net proceeds go to the BC Cancer Foundation. The Surrey Sunflower Festival is presented by Genaris Cares. Hours: Thursdays: 12-6pm Friday – Sunday: 10am-7pm

Jamaica Day Festival
August 6
Holland Park

If you are a Jamaican, of Jamaican heritage or a lover of all things Jamaican, head to Holland Park on August 6 for the annual Jamaica Day Cultural Festival. Come for a taste of all things Jamaica – food, games, music, craft and entertainment!  Bring your picnic blankets, coolers, and concert chairs. We look forward to jamming with you!

Summer Sunflower Farm Days

Summer Farm Days are back at Gabriel Farms (Hazelmere Pumpkin Patch). Fun for the whole family. Stroll Sunflower Lane, a 600′ lane with sunflowers on both sides for the perfect family photo. Wander through the mini corn maze and visit the very friendly goat family. Hop on a wagon ride and let your imagination run wild in the play area.  Open August 12 & 13 and 19 & 20 from 9:30am – 2:30pm Admission is $10.00 per person (2yrs +)

Russell & Roots Country Night

Russell & Roots is a brand new 2-part concert series featuring some of the top rock and country acts in Canada. Held at Softball City in South Surrey, music lovers are getting ready for a night of stellar country music on Saturday, August 12. Expect a day of sunshine (fingers crossed), great music, delicious food and awesome local beer from co-presenter Russell Brewing Company. Country Night features LOCASH, James Barker Band, Meghan Patrick and some awesome local acts. And you’re going to want to challenge yourself, and your friends, on the mechanical bull ride.

Bog Body

The Foolish Productions team, an independent art collective, is excited to share their first-ever theatre production of Bog Body by Canadian playwright Robbie Dryer.

“After finishing her PhD at Cambridge University and breaking up with her long-term partner, Amelia is left uncertain about her future both personally and as an academic. When she and an old university acquaintance, Sarah, are recruited to work together on a newly discovered bog body, Amelia starts to hear the bog body’s serene voice call out to her.”

Battle of the Brews

The Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society and 93.7 JR Country are hosting the 5th Annual Battle of the Brews on Saturday August 19 at Surrey City Hall Plaza from 1-5pm.  This fun charity event will offer attendees a great afternoon of craft beer tasting, food trucks and live music. And all proceeds from the event will help fund Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society youth initiatives.

Sounds of Summer

The sweet sounds of live and local music will be wafting through the fresh air in Surrey’s parks and plazas each and every Wednesday evening, this summer. With genres that range from Jazz and Neo Soul to Motown and Latin and everything in between, there’s a free concert for all types of music genres. Bring your own chair or blanket or let the music move you and dance all night long, it’s all up to you! Movies Under the Stars

Movies Under the Stars is back! The Downtown Surrey Business Improvement Association presented Surreys’ free outdoor movie event at Holland Park. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets for a night of free family fun, outdoor activities, and great movies! A different movie will play each week beginning at dusk. Entertainment starts at 6 pm and includes games, singers, crafts, draws, and lots more.  This year’s movie lineup:

  • August 5: Turning Red
  • August 12: Puss in Boots: The Last Wish
  • August 19: The Super Mario Bros. Movie

Farmers Markets

With the warmer months come Surrey’s bounty of fresh local produce just waiting to be devoured. After all, 30 per cent of Surrey’s land is dedicated to agriculture and committed to local food growing. So it’s no surprise that there are a variety of Farmers’ Markets and farm stores peppered across the city where you can pick and choose your weekly produce pickup.
