Relaxed wine and craft beer experience in Panorama Village
Most people searching for a BC wine tour head straight to the Okanagan. But Panorama Village in Surrey, BC has its own local story, and it starts with a working vineyard you probably didn't know existed, followed by a California inspired craft brewery nearby.
Stop 1 — Vinoscenti Vineyards
Surrey's first estate vineyard, tucked into Panorama Village alongside the Serpentine Fen. Thirteen acres of vines in the middle of the city, an easy escape without leaving Metro Vancouver. Walk the rows of grown grapes that you are sipping or take a guided winery tour with a curated tasting. From spring through early fall, Vinoscenti's patio is the perfect thing to do for views over the vines.
Stop 2 — Way Back Brew Co.
California beach culture circa 1978, planted in South Surrey, this is one of Metro Vancouver's distinctive craft breweries worth taking the trip to Surrey for. The tap room leans retro, old-school sports legends on the walls, a good playlist, and a solid craft beer lineup from a clean Lager to a Hazy IPA and Peach Raspberry Sour. Flights available, plus craft cocktails from Vancouver's Resurrection Spirits. In late spring and summer, call ahead to grab beers at the outdoor community firepit, order a pizza, and stay a while.
Stop 3 — Group Activities nearby
e-Exit Escape Room — Competitive, social, and a great way to close a day of tasting. Book ahead for groups.
Par4 Kitchen & Bar — Golf and sport simulators, specialty cocktails, trivia nights, and dancing on weekends.
An industrial craft beverage trail with hidden gems
Campbell Heights may be a full of warehouses, loading docks, and industrial units. But hidden inside that grid of corrugated metal and concrete is an unexpected destinations for small-batch wine, whisky, and craft producers cultivating community and a loyal following of their local sips.
This self-guided walking or driving route connects you to the the independent producers within one compact area. Make sure to call ahead to book!
Stop 1 — Gate 22 Winery Start here. Gate 22 operates with a restless curiosity that most wineries talk about but rarely practice, they source grapes from award-winning vineyards across North America, from Rutherford to Los Carneros, hand-select based on climate and terroir, then ferment, barrel, and bottle right here in BC. The result is genuinely local wine with a genuinely global reach. A curated tasting of 5 wines starts at $15. It's a low-stakes way to try something that punches well above its industrial address.
Stop 2 — Scott Landon Antiques Not a drinking stop, but a good one to contrast. Scott Landon curates architectural antiques, lighting with one-of-a-kind craftsmanship. If you're someone who travels to find treasure, this is your detour.
Stop 3 — 1st R.O.W. Estate Winery Where Gate 22 travels for its grapes, 1st R.O.W. goes deep into BC's own backyard — the Okanagan and Similkameen Valleys, including the world-renowned Black Sage Bench. Their all-natural, grapes-to-glass process is old-world in spirit: low-pressure pressing, hand-punched red skins during fermentation, and 20–24 months in French oak. It's a quick stop with a direct expression of BC terroir, and it's won awards for exactly that reason starting at $9 per person.
Stop 4 — Fuel Up
Stop at a local favourite stop for Pasta at Ladybird's Trattoria. Or step into Spent Grounds, a woman-owned café and roastery that doubles as a mini artisan market, stocked with gluten-free goods and handmade items from local makers.
Stop 5 — Mainland Whisky (Book ahead) This is the one that catches you off guard. A Texas-raised distiller making small-batch whisky in a Surrey industrial park sounds like a punchline, until you walk in. The space has a sleek, underground-bar energy that feels completely out of place in a warehouse district, which is exactly what makes it work. Surrey's first whisky distillery, built by owner Steve, who'll tell you the story of getting it off the ground.
Book their new behind-the-scenes distillery tour and tasting, or experiment with a hands-on cocktail class. Book in advanced, this hidden spot fills up.
