The International South Asian Film Festival (iSAFF) returns to Surrey for another landmark celebration of South Asian cinema and culture. Founded in 2008 to bridge the gap between South Asian talent and mainstream audiences, iSAFF connects directors, actors, producers, community organizations, and cinephiles in a shared love of stories that go beyond mainstream cinema and contemporary Bollywood formulas.
Now in its 19th year, iSAFF presents a carefully curated selection of thought-provoking and entertaining narrative films, documentaries, episodic series, and shorts spanning a wide range of genres — celebrating stories not usually represented by mainstream cinema and providing a platform for new and emerging talent.
The festival opens on the evening of September 23 with the glamorous Purple Carpet Gala, featuring sneak peeks at festival films and special performances. Filmmakers, community members, and media will walk the purple carpet, with black tie, Indian, or fusion attire recommended for attendees.
