For the past thirteen years, Surrey kicks off the holiday season with the annual Surrey Tree Lighting Festival. This two-day free, family-friendly event, is filled with amazing light displays, a Holiday Market, amusement rides, and all things bright and merry.
Now we’re not saying that the bigger the display, the more holiday spirit, but if that were the case, Surrey might just be the merriest city of all! Discover the enchantment of Surrey’s towering 60-foot Christmas tree decorated with giant holiday ornaments, sparkling lights and a dazzling star tree-topper. The tree will be lit at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 25, and will glow throughout the day until early January 2024.
Civic Plaza comes alive with immersive light experiences, including an enchanted light tunnel, archways and giant ornaments. Capture delightful moments at photo spots, and be sure to wander through the Holiday Market with over 25 local vendors featuring unique gifts that make perfect stocking stuffers, live music and 500 feet of cascading waterfall lights. The festival is filled with shimmering light exhibits and festive decorations at every turn, creating a joyful atmosphere for people of all ages.
Enjoy a diverse lineup of talented artists on the Snowflake Stage, including Warren Dean Flandez, the enchanting “Come Fly with Me: Michael Bublé Tribute,” the festive “Merry & Bright,” the lively Pat Chessell and Friends, the musical vibes of Josh Bogert, the soulful Á’a:líya, and the swingin’ sounds of Phat Santa Swing. Over at the North Pole Stage, be captivated by Fraser Valley Ballet’s magical rendition of “The Nutcracker,” join in holiday singalongs with Belle and Cinderella, and savor the harmonious tunes of local choirs. The Candy Cane Dance Tent, courtesy of ML Emporio, promises thrilling dance battles and beats from DJs. And don’t forget to swing by the Grand Staircase at the City Centre library for a dose of local talent.
This festive event caters to all ages, especially the little ones, with a dedicated Kid’s Zone inside The North Pole at Surrey City Hall Atrium. Enjoy free photos with Santa, courtesy of KPU, and to capture the perfect moment, be sure to reserve your photos with Santa for a smoother experience, as there will be a very limited number of walk-up spots available. Explore a variety of activities such as crafts by Downtown Surrey BIA, Toddler Town, and letter-writing to Santa sponsored by Qualico. Plus, visitors can enjoy free rides, including a Ferris Wheel and kiddie attractions like the Berry-Go-Round, Barrel of Monkeys, and the Pirate Ship at Surrey Civic Plaza.
What event is complete without delicious treats to keep you warm? Snack on mini-doughnuts, or sip a latte from the Insomniac Coffee Co. truck. Delicious and traditional Mexican cuisine from Taco N Todo, Japanese Hawaiian fusion dishes from Kyu Grill, mouth-watering burgers from B&B Gourmet Burgers and gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches from Moms Grilled Cheese are food trucks to choose from, but who says you have to pick just one?
