Fun, Free Things to Do in Surrey

Whether you’re travelling to Surrey for the first time, or discovering your own backyard, finding fun and affordable things to do is not always the easiest task. Sometimes you just want to spend a lovely afternoon with your friends or family without having to dish out all your fun-money in one afternoon. We get it. So we’ve compiled a list of fun, free (or admission-by-donation) activities to make those days off a blast!

Believe in Magic

Surrey has a bounty of parks and gardens, but did you know that nestled in South Surrey’s Redwood Park is a special type of garden? A fairy garden, in fact, and it’s not only bursting with colour, but magic, too! Check out the hundreds of beautifully decorated fairy houses as you hike the forested trails. Be sure to pack a picnic as there’s beautiful grassy meadows to host your al fresco lunch.

Take a History Lesson

Surrey may have only been officially named a city since 1993, but did you know that Surrey’s heritage dates all the way back to the 1870’s? Learn all about Surrey’s history at the Surrey Museum! This Cloverdale attraction features exhibits like the permanent Kids Gallery and “What We Bring” exhibit for Canada 150 that displays items and objects that settlers and immigrants brought with them on their journey to Surrey.

Make a Splash

Surrey has 8 outdoor pools across Surrey that won’t cost you a dime to take a dip in. Many of Surrey’s public pools are located within parks, so you can go for a swim, play some bocce, and enjoy an afternoon in the great outdoors.

Hunt for Treasure

If you haven’t tried Geochaching yet, it’s a great way to discover Surrey’s 600 parks and green spaces! This fun and free activity involves following clues on the Geocache App to find expertly hidden treasures. Open up your treasure, mark your name as a finder, and replace the treasure inside with a new gift for the next finder. We’ve even heard that the newly opened Godwin Farm Biodiversity Preserve in Guildford has some cool caches.

Hit the Beach

A day filled with sun, sand, and swimming sounds pretty spectacular to us. South Surrey’s little slice of paradise, Crescent Beach, is filled with little surprises like hunting for sand dollars and starfish when the tide’s out. Check out the volleyball court in the sand or spend the day catching some rays.
