Surrey is Kid Approved

Surrey is becoming one of the fastest growing cities in the lower mainland as more and more families relocate to more affordable communities outside of Vancouver. The City of Surrey is projecting the population growth in Surrey alone to be over 300,000 people in the next 3 decades, with a significant percentage being young families. Residents and visiting families are looking for local activities to keep their children busy.

Thankfully Surrey has family friendly activities galore with a list that’s growing as we speak. Special events, arts and culture and educational fun are just some of the family friendly options in Surrey.

Each year Potters Nursery, BC’s largest Farm & Garden Center, provides a thrilling experience for everyone by setting the stage for one of the best haunted houses in the lower mainland. Scouring the globe for the latest ghoulish props and animatronics, Potter’s staff designs terrifying custom haunted houses every year to the delight of people of all ages. Just for the kiddos is L’il Haunters, a kids-only attraction with two mini haunted houses that aren’t too dark or scary and contain no animatronics or actors. But not to worry – there is still plenty of creepy and terrifying surprises for ‘older kids’ in the newly created haunted house, Monstrosity and the Swampin’ Slaughterhouse.

On the sweeter side of entertainment the Beach House Theatre Society presents a family friendly theatre production under the summer stars in the quaint beachside community of Crescent Beach. The Society’s goal is “to connect the arts with the local community, to inspire artistically minded youth and to expose theatre-goers to the special charm of Crescent Beach.”

For people that like to make their own fun, Surrey is chock-full of beautiful parks, perfect for nature walks, picnics and opportunities to educate the young ones. The Surrey Nature Centre at Green Timbers Urban Forest offers educational programs and events year round to engage children with outdoor play and exploration. There is also plenty of time for fantasy and fairy tales at Redwood Park that has its very own secret Fairy Forest.
