Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival

The Greater Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival is when cafes across Metro Vancouver get creative and serve up the most delicious and decadent hot chocolates! Three cafes in South Surrey and White Rock are participating with mouth-watering hot chocolate offerings including Everbean Cafe’s Candied Sweet Potato Hot Chocolate (Jan 13 – 30) and Cereal Milk Hot Chocolate (Feb 1 – 14), Mink Chocolates’ the Not Hot Chocolate and the Kinda Hot Hot Chocolate and Chez Christophe’s (White Rock) Cereal-ously Awesome Cinnamon Toast Crunch Hot Chocolate (Jan 13 – 27)  and Dragon Ball Z Hot Chocolate (Jan 30 – Feb 10).

Don’t miss the latest exhibition at the Surrey Art Gallery. un/tangling, un/covering, un/doing is a beautiful and thought-provoking exhibit that shares stories embedded in the rituals attached to hair, for instance, acts of resistance and sacred reverence. Rooted within storytelling by families and communities, the politics of hair have been both intimately personal and profoundly social. Hair carries diverse cultural narratives that are usually shared through identity and gender.

The Comic Strippers

A fictitious male stripper troupe (played by a cast of some of Canada’s best improvisational comedians) performs a “sexylarious” improv comedy show. They try to be sexy… it just comes out funny. Constantly grooving and gyrating in between scenes they banter with the crowd and perform their hilarious twist on improv sketches. They sing, they “dance”, and they are ready to make you laugh. Semi-undressed and completely unscripted, The Comic Strippers take off their shirts and take on your suggestions to create a whole new genre of comedy. (19+)

Will these elderly lovers – played simultaneously by both an older and younger couple – stay together despite their families’ wishes and their fading vitality?

Schubert’s Ninth Symphony was nicknamed The Great for good reason! It is as majestic as it is innovative and has been heralded by audiences and other celebrated composers as “worthy of a place among the loftiest productions of our art” (Berlioz). Also on the program, is one of the most miraculous, charming, and lyrical compositions of the 20th century, Concierto de Aranjuez, featuring Italian classical guitarist extraordinaire Aniello Desiderio.
