Meet Brittany Senko

For marketing manager Brittany Senko, nothing gives her more joy than dogs and horses, but her home comes a pretty close second. We asked this self-professed equine and canine enthusiast what makes Surrey so special. Here’s what she had to say…

Tourism Surrey: How long have you been a part of the Surrey community?

Brittany Senko: “I was raised in Surrey, BC. I completed elementary school at W.E Kinvig and then went on to do grades 8 and 9 at Princess Margaret Secondary School. My family moved into Delta at the end of my grade 9 year. My husband and I shared our first apartment together in Surrey. Recently, we decided to purchase a condo in Surrey’s rapidly growing core. Now, we are moved in and here for the long haul!”

TS: What do you love about being a part of Surrey?

BS: “I love how accessible it is. Within a short drive (or transit ride) you can be in Coquitlam, Langley, Delta, Richmond, and even Vancouver. This is fantastic when you’re a working professional that needs to get from city to city and into Vancouver’s downtown core. Even though the city is very accessible, in our leisure time we rarely have to leave the city to get what we need. Surrey has everything: shopping, restaurants, parks, community centers, and even waterfront access at Crescent Beach!”

TS: What’s the most valuable thing that Surrey provides you?

BS: “As a young home owner, I can provide a glowing reference for the city that we call home. I’m an advocate for core growth, an ambassador for the city and a testament to the fact that you can indeed own a beautiful home in the lower mainland at a reasonable price.”

TS: What’s the most valuable thing Surrey provides you?

BS: “A home. It isn’t just ‘where we live’ but it is our home. Both my husband and I were confident about purchasing a home in Surrey because of its rapid and clear approach to growth. That continued growth is what will keep our family happy, comfortable and safe in the city.”

TS: What made you choose Surrey as the host city for your endeavors?

BS: “We wanted to get into the housing market and be confident with the direction that we were going with our investment. When we looked at our options across the Lower Mainland and the opportunities available it was a no brainer for us to purchase in Surrey. It is growing so quickly with new amenities and infrastructure which makes it very appealing to a potential home owner.”

TS: How has Surrey inspired you professionally or personally?

BS: “Surrey has inspired me to dive deeper into my community and find the nooks and crannies that I didn’t know existed before. It has inspired me to embrace the city that I live in and to be an ambassador to people who have the wrong perceptions regarding what the city is all about.”

TS: What has changed the most about Surrey in the last 10 years?

BS: “The core has developed so significantly. Also, the amount of high density houses available which is a huge asset to a growing city.”

TS: Tell us something about you that not many people know.

BS: Something people don’t know about me? The fact that I am utterly (get it?) terrified of cows. I don’t know what it is about them… their eyes… the blank stare… I am not sure but they are consistently in my nightmares.

TS: Where do you imagine Surrey going in the next 10 years?

BS: I imagine a bustling city core that is walkable and accessible to neighbouring suburbs. I see more jobs created and more working professionals choosing to live in Surrey’s city core.
