Festival Highlights

Bright Nights: A Vancouver Tradition Returns to Surrey

Bright Nights started as a community Christmas light display in Surrey during the 1980s, created by residents Bob Wingfield and Marg Barrett with support from Surrey firefighters. The display quickly became a holiday favourite, drawing thousands of visitors while raising funds for burn survivors. In 1997, the light collection was donated to BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund, creating Bright Nights in Vancouver's Stanley Park. The dazzling displays became one of Metro Vancouver’s most celebrated seasonal attractions for more than two decades. The event became the largest holiday light display in Metro Vancouver, featuring nearly 3 million lights and serving as the Burn Fund’s primary fundraiser. In 2025, Bright Nights returns to Surrey as part of the Noel Holiday Light Festival, bringing nearly 3 million sparkling lights and its iconic magic back to its roots, while continuing to support the Burn Fund, helping burn survivors across BC and the Yukon.
