The best way to stay warm, and dry, during a west coast winter? Well, besides the layers … and it really is all about layering … we recommend lots of hot chocolate. And there’s nothing better on a chilly or rainy day than a soul-warming mug of creamy, rich hot chocolatey goodness. When you’re out exploring, stop by one of these Surrey cafes for a tasty treat for a quick warm-up before your next Surrey adventure.

PS.  From January 13 to February 14, 2024, the Greater Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival is happening and the Surrey / White Rock area has 3 participating cafes to check out. Everbean takes its hot chocolate very seriously. It all starts with their house-made vegan chocolate sauce stirred into the milk of your choice and topped with a mound of creamy whipped cream. And keep an eye out … these are creative folks and it’s not unusual for deliciously unique flavours to appear on the menu for a limited time while they experiment!

Hot Chocolate Festival – Candied Sweet Potato Hot Chocolate (January 13 – 31), milk chocolate and candied sweet potato puree, and Cereal Milk Hot Chocolate (February 1 – 14), milk chocolate with toasted cornflake cereal milk. Each hot chocolate is served with a tasty treat from To Live For Bakery.

If that’s a little too rich for your taste, their traditional hot chocolate is served using pure, fresh chocolate ganache. And you can buy jars of their chocolate ganache to take home and brew yourself.

Hot Chocolate Festival – The Not Hot Hot Chocolate, a Parisian style drinking chocolate over French vanilla ice cream and The Kinda Hot Hot Chocolate,  pure ganache layered with sweet cream and ancho & chipotle peppers.

Black Tiger Coffee Company
110-19255 Fraser Highway | Fleetwood
Settle into this bright and welcoming coffee shop for a cup of their expertly steamed milk hot chocolate. The milk is textured, which means it has been aerated to the perfect froth level and temperature giving it a velvety consistency. It is then blended with dark chocolate, or, we hear that the white chocolate option is out of this world! And we highly recommend pairing your hot chocolate with one of their delicious doughnuts.

Dudes Coffee House

With their Holiday Orange Hot Chocolate, Dudes has set the bar high for the perfect cup of holiday cheer. Reminiscent of everyone’s favourite chocolate orange treat, this creamy cup of goodness is exactly what we all need on a chilly day.  Is orange not your favourite flavour? Not to worry, their classic hot chocolate is also delicious, and be sure to have it topped with chocolate whipped cream.
