Autumn Adventures with the Arts

Artistic exhibits and performances to check out this season

Fall is approaching, and it’s time for apple cider, pumpkin pie, and cold weather. For a fun day away from the biting cold, head inside to a theatre or gallery. What better activity to warm you right up than to go see a lovely expression of art?

Get in some hearty laughs at a performance of Sean Grennan’s comedy “Beer for Breakfast”. Playing at the Surrey Little Theatre this September, this play will take you along to a guys’ weekend where things start to go haywire. A great show to see with some friends, but best not bring any kids, as this show has some adult humour.

As we head deeper into Autumn, the season for ghouls and ghosts begins! Get in the season’s spirit with a show of “Arsenic and Old Lace”. This Royal Canadian Theatre company performance will be at the Surrey Arts Centre this October. Full of crazy, wacky, dark comedy with just a splash of scary, this play is sure to be a great Halloween activity.

If you are looking to take in some art, no better place than at the Surrey Art Gallery for their Thursday night Art Talks. Hear from artist Hannah Bennett at her event “Art and the In-between” as she talks about her art and how she works at staying creative even without being a full time artist. Or come and see Chito Maravilla with his talk “Paintings of an Immigrant” for a cross cultural art experience, as he talks about the Philippines and Canada with his expressionist and surrealist paintings.

At the very end of Autumn, you can escape to Neverland with “Peter Pan at the Panto”! Enjoy this classic tale that will make you never want to grow up. With great music and lively performers this show is sure to be a hit for the whole family. Playing at the Surrey Civic Theatres in November, you won’t want to miss your chance to fly to the enchanting land of Peter Pan.

If you are ever shivering at the thought of going outside, but still want to get out of the house this Autumn, head to the theatre, take in an art exhibit, and discover all the fun and creative events going on in Surrey.
