Stay Home and Catch a Show

While nothing can replace the fantastic experience of a live show, thanks to digital platforms, Surrey’s spring performing arts scene is just a click away. And honestly, we love the thought of curling up on the couch, ordering takeout from a favourite restaurant and taking in a show! As we continue to maintain physical distance and spend more time at home, it is more important than ever to nourish our minds and souls by immersing ourselves, even if just for an hour, in the creative worlds of these talented artists presented on the Digital Stage by Surrey Civic Theatres.

Coming up:

Cris Derksen in Concert
February 26 – April 9, 2021
In cellist and composer Cris Derksen’s solo show, classical, Indigenous, and urban elements combine.  You may get the propulsive pounding of powwow music, the head-nodding rhythms of a hip hop track, the metronome thumps of a techno mix, or all three in the same song. Her instruments are loop pedals, a drum machine and, of course, the cello: its melodies are plaintive but catchy, growing in number as the song progresses. These hooks repeat like echoes, part of a thick mixture yet distinct within it. Premiere Broadcast: February 26, 7 PM available to watch until April 9, 2021.

50 Shades of Vinyl: A Canadian Parody
February 12 – 28, 2021
Surrey Civic Theatres is pleased to present HappySad Theatre’s loving tribute to Stuart McLean with a saucy twist. This trio of gentle parodies follows “Dale” and “Marney” as they stumble into a new chapter in their bedroom. Never scandalous, always hilarious, 50 Shades of Vinyl is as much a heartfelt homage to an iconic Canadian storyteller as it is the erotic fan fiction you never knew you needed.  Show available to watch from February 12 to 28, 2021.
