Meet Kama Money

Surrey is known as one of the fastest growing communities in Canada, in fact, one thousand people on average move to Surrey each and every month. One of the recent imports has jumped into Surrey’s culture and happenings with both feet, and is wasting ZERO time becoming accustomed to life in Surrey.

Her name is Kama Money, but you might know her as the force behind Orange Bridge Communications, a community development company for businesses, brands, events, you name it. She’s also collaborated with team members on passion projects like The Heart of Vancouver Island, promoting all the amazing things to do and see in her hometown of Port Alberni, as well as the Tri-Conic Challenge that’s a part of the Canada 150 celebrations. Now that she’s a Surrey resident, she’s embracing all that Surrey has to offer!

Kama is the type of woman who’s up for anything. Running, stand up paddle boarding, hiking, reading, travelling, and exploring her new ‘hood with her son are just a few of her interests, so life in Surrey is perfectly suited for her. And we’re lucky enough to get to share some of Kama’s adventures as she discovers all there is to do and see in Surrey, as she’s taking over our Instagram account (@discoversurreybc) all week long. From runs in the park to brand new cafes, and everything in between, we’ll get to see Surrey through her eyes (and camera lens).

Head over to her Facebook page, and browse through her Instagram for a little preview of what’s to come this week!

UPDATE:

Curious about Kama’s Instagram Takeover? We loved her photos so much we just had to share her discoveries here!

Hi, I’m Kama and I’m new here. I’m a small town girl, so gravitate towards parks and relaxed spaces that make me feel at home. I’m a mom, so look for family-friendly places to play, eat, and learn. In fact, my little guy happened to take this pic of me! I’ve been really surprised about Surrey. In a good way. Surrey’s parks and recreation facilities are jaw-dropping and offer world-class experiences unheard of in a small town. We’ve been especially impressed with Grandview Heights Aquatic Centre (love that lazy river!), Surrey Museum and South Surrey Recreation & Arts Centre. #TrueSurrey”

We spent an entire afternoon exploring Art Knapp Surrey: the epic hot sauce display, garden centre, kids’ train ride, and high-end ladies’ boutique. I loved the unexpected contrast of this playful shoe planter. We were there early in the season, so will have to check out the mini golf and working model train next time! #TrueSurrey #KidApprovedBC”

I stumbled across the West Village Café and was struck by its branding, clean design, and funky planters. We were warmly greeted by the owner, Paul, who also hails from Vancouver Island. He sat down with us, got to know us, and shared his deep commitment to supporting local & ethical. I’ve been back twice, and it’s been buzzing with customers. Word’s gotten out! #TrueSurrey #KidApprovedBC”

We drove by Semiahmoo Public Library, saw this living wall, and knew we needed to stop. I love this building’s contrast of sleek lines of modern architecture and wild vibrancy of nature. We ventured inside, registered for a new Surrey library card, played on the kid-sized firetruck, and signed out a bunch of books!#TrueSurrey #KidApprovedBC”

Local parents have told me Redwood Park is their favourite place to bring kids! We loved the playground, expansive trail system, tree house in the woods and children’s’ fairy garden hidden in the forest. This display of nature and magic made me feel like a kid again. My son has already been asking to go back! #TrueSurrey #KidApprovedBC”

We are sending an enormous THANK YOU to Kama for sharing her stories as she discovers her new town of Surrey! If you’re interested in taking over our Instagram account, let us know!
