A visit to Surrey isn’t complete without sampling some of the region’s libations! The city is home to a diverse collection of breweries, distilleries and wineries, each with their own unique offerings and all definitely making their mark on BC’s craft beverage scene.
Central City Brewers & Distillers
Enjoy a flight or sip on an original cocktail featuring their own spirits, at the Central City Brew Pub. Located in North Surrey, Central City Brewers + Distillers is a BC craft brewery pioneer. (11411 Bridgeview Drive)
Russell Brewing
Russell began brewing beer in 1995; forging the way for the craft movement by making small-batch unpasteurized “Real Beer” with natural ingredients. A tasting room is in the works, but in the meantime, you can find many of their beers at liquor stores and pubs across the province. (13018 80 Avenue)
Vinoscenti Vineyards
Explore the vineyards of Vinoscenti all the way into the winery and wrap up by tasting the (literal) fruits of the winemaker’s labour. With flights of varying blends, you’re sure to find your new favourite bottle of red, white, or rosé. (15560 Colebrook Road)
Mainland Whisky
Hand-crafted, made in small batches and never chill-filtered, Surrey’s newest distillery, Mainland Whisky honours traditional moonshine practices, and their unique recipes highlight British Columbia organic corn and barley. (107 – 3425 189 Street)
Dragon Mist DistilleryAs the producer of the only Canadian-made baijiu, the most consumed (by volume) spirit in the world, Dragon Mist Distillery is a must-visit, if only to try this pungent spirit. They also make craft vodka, gin and liqueurs using local BC ingredients. Contact the distillery to arrange a tasting. (213 – 19138 26 Avenue)
Cavallo Winery
Cavallo’s wines have been produced using grapes from select vineyards in California, including some located in the much-coveted Napa Valley. The result is full-bodied wines with ripe fruit, lush tannins that are very approachable … and drinkable. Tours and tastings are available by reservation. (150 – 19288 22 Avenue)
Storehouse Winery
Surrey’s newest winery, Storehouse Winery, prides itself on sourcing grapes from the most prolific wine-growing regions in the world. The grapes are processed, aged and bottled locally and the results are rich, bold and fruit-forward which translates into highly drinkable wines like their Smooth Red, Reisling and Reserve Barrel 84.
