Picnic in the Past at The Stewart Historic Farm

It’s hard to get outside.

It is all too easy to get caught up in emails, phone calls, or the lure of that new Netflix show, even when the weather is beautiful. Wouldn’t it be nice to take in a lungful of fresh air and for once just enjoy the moment? Bask in butter yellow sunlight on a bed of green grass and a soft blanket, next to a basket full of treats? Luckily, the Historic Stewart Farm is making going outside easy again, providing everything you need for a beautiful picnic!

Just like when you were a kid and all you had to do was pull on your sneakers, grab your bike from the garage and peddle to the neighbourhood park to catch up with your friends, you don’t have to overthink anything for this simple outdoor adventure. Prepare your favourite outdoor snacks, whether it’s refreshing watermelon slices, a classic macaroni salad, or just a big box of double-stuffed oreos and let the Historic Steart Farm do the rest.

Once you get there, stop and pick up your picnic kit and if you have kids with you, grab a scavenger hunt for them to complete and let them explore the Historic Stewart Farm, there is plenty of open space for both running around and relaxing. Now that you are here: games, historic scenes, and even fresh baking awaits you!

Enjoy your picturesque picnic set, complete with wicker basket and checkered picnic blanket and spread out on the farm grounds. Take in that fresh air and bask in the Summer sun. Play some lawn games between bites of your picnic fare like Monopoly, which may have been a polarizing game in the past, perhaps launching a few childhood or sibling feuds, but in such a nice atmosphere in the great outdoors no one could possibly get upset, right? Well, if you aren’t so sure you can also try your hand other lawn games such as Jenga or an old fashioned match of croquet.

As the afternoon sun starts to lower, it will be time to pack up and return your picnic kit. But if you’ve captured any memories of the day with some photos, consider tagging your them with @stewartfarm #picnicinthepast (and #TrueSurrey, of course *wink*) for a chance win a picnic basket of your very own, and keep the outdoor adventures going all Summer long.

The Historic Stewart Farm is located at 13723 Crescent Road, and is open Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm
