By now you’ve heard about how big Surrey’s annual Canada Day celebrations are: the incredible performers, the family fun, and the opportunities for diverse cultural expression. But we all know one of the BEST parts of any festival is … the food!
And with over 30 food trucks and vendors scheduled to be on-site at Surrey Canada Day on July 1, you had better plan to show up hungry! Read on for some of our favourite foodie highlights:
Canadian Grub
It doesn’t really get more Canadian than bannock, and BC’s own “Bannock Queen” will be on site serving up all varieties of Bannock including original, “everything” seasoning, cinnamon sugar and seasonal flavours. Pick up a plate of ooey-gooey poutine from Big Red Poutine, or snack on some mini donuts (they’re Canadian right?) from Hug’s Mini Donuts or Tin Lizzy Mini Donuts. And as White Spot’s Triple O sauce is practically a Canadian institution, we are happy to announce that the Triple O’s 30-foot mobile restaurant will be on-site to satisfy your hunger.
Global Cuisine
If we know anything about dining in Surrey, it’s that we have a huge amount of super delicious global restaurants, and the food trucks rolling into Surrey Canada Day will be representing countries from around the world. Jamaican Mi Juicy brings fresh Caribbean flavours like their Jerk Chicken Caesar Wrap, as well as fresh-fruit smoothies and hand-cut yam fries. Festival regular Hunky Bill’s will be on-site with their satisfying plates of perogies and sausage. Smoking Hot Donairs will be serving Middle-Eastern dishes like lamb donair and falafel.
Festival Fare
It wouldn’t be a festival without some long-standing favourites. Those crispy, curly delicious potatoes on a stick will be at the Original Hurricane Potato truck. And who doesn’t feel the need for a corn dog when you’re at a festival? Not to mention standards like burgers, grilled cheese, hot dogs, and mac and cheese trucks.
Sweet Treats
Ice cream won’t be hard to find with Dolce Amore, Kona Ice and Rocky Point Ice Cream all scooping sweet frosty treats all day long. Or take your ice cream to the next level with a Slavic Roll, a pastry dessert cylinder, rolled in cinnamon and sugar, baked so the sugar caramelizes, and filled with vanilla ice cream! And did we mention the mini doughnuts?
If we just seriously stirred up your appetite, we’ll be seeing YOU at Surrey Canada Day! Bring your appetite!
