Bike riding is a fantastic family activity and there's no better way to explore Surrey's neighbourhoods and parks year-round than by bike. Surrey has peaceful neighbourhood bike routes and options for biking off-road, surrounded by nature.  Here are some of our favourite local rides, and snack stops ...  because everybody needs a pre-or post-ride treat!

Ocean Park Neighbourhood Bike Route

This neighbourhood bike route, located in South Surrey, travels from Semiahmoo Shopping Mall uptown to the neighbourhood of Ocean Park. The mostly flat route travels through quiet back streets. This neighbourhood bike route is about 7 or 8 km one way and is the perfect way to relax. The route is well-labelled with various signs so it is easy to follow. Bring the family along for a nice summer day out and about in the local community!

Snack stops:  Delitalia Fine Foods in Ocean Park is perfect for picking up ingredients to build your picnic – Italian meats and cheeses, olives, fancy crackers and for a sweet treat ... gelato! Dudes Coffeehouse is also nearby for mouthwatering sandwiches or brunch.

Port Mann - Surrey City Centre Neighbourhood Bike Route

If you are on the hunt for a more moderate bike ride with a higher level of difficulty, this route is for you! This neighbourhood bike route connects the Port Mann Bridge with Surrey's city centre. It is centrally located but travels through some of the more quiet roads in the area. The Bon Accord Pedestrian bridge links the Fraser Heights neighbourhood with the city centre through a ravine.

Snack stops:  Will ride for tacos! Plan your lunch stop for tacos at the always welcoming (and delicious) Guacamole Mexican Grill, just a couple of blocks off the bike route.

Tynehead Park + Green Timbers Urban Forest Greenway

This greenway connects the 2km loop of Green Timbers Urban Forest with a 4km bike path in Tynehead Regional Park. This flexible bike route allows many different variations of routes for any bike rider. You can do a loop of one park, both, or just the 6km greenway! There is parking at both parks and the route is a mostly flat ride, bar a few hills along the connecting greenway. There’s something for every level of biker in this green getaway in Guildford!

Snack stops: Cuatro Coffee is a quick 5-minute ride off the bike route and is a crowd-pleaser for amazing coffee and baked goods.

Barnston Island

This little hidden gem on the Fraser is the perfect bikers paradise, and awesome for younger children. The unique part of Barnston is that the only way to reach it is by ferry! The ferry is free and runs continuously by demand. The island is quiet and flat, and approximately 12km around. There is no parking on the island so it is recommended that you walk onto the ferry with your bike and leave your car behind. Pack up a picnic and go for a day trip away from the hustle of big city Surrey!

Snack Stop: Barnston Island is a bring-your-own snack (or lunch) ride!  We recommend a stop at Miltomates Mexican Food for super delicious (and easy to pack) burritos with a side of homemade chips and salsa.

Mud Bay Park

Mud Bay Park is a secluded strip off Highway 99. It has a long and wide gravel road perfect for a walk or a bike ride.  The path is linear so if you’re in the mood for a long commitment, it is possible to keep riding into the neighbouring city of Delta to Point Roberts! Otherwise, we recommend timing yourself and knowing when to turn back to return to your starting point at the parking lot. It is the route that is farthest away from the city so make sure to bring plenty of water!

Snack Stop: This is another pack-your-own-snacks ride! Or, post-ride, hop back in the car and zip up to Just Cakes Bakeshop for cupcakes, macarons or their famous cake jars!  Or for lunch try the sandwiches or bowls at the West Village Cafe.
