It’s hard to picture anything more beautiful than Crescent Beach in the summertime. Unless of course, you imagine the sprawling shore and her unspoiled view as the breathtaking backdrop to some of Shakespeare’s best-loved plays.
Thanks to The Beach House Theatre Society, you don’t have to imagine. For the past three years they’ve been bringing their own brand of magic to Crescent Beach.
The company was born five years ago, the brainchild of Beach House Theatre’s Artistic Directors Rick Harmon and Candace Radcliffe, theatre teachers at Surrey’s Earl Marriott Secondary School. Education and mentorship are at the core of Beach House Theatre’s mandate and local youth are incorporated in the productions as actors, technicians, and crew members.
This season Beach House Theatre is mounting two shows under the tented stage on Blackie Spit – Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors and for children (and the young at heart) The Three Munschketeers.
The Comedy of Errors
By William Shakespeare
August 12th-17th at 8pm
Don’t be intimidated if you’re not familiar with The Bard’s work. The Comedy of Errors is an easily-digestible comedy, perfect for connoisseurs and newcomers alike. It’s one of Shakespeare’s early plays, a shortfarcical romp jam-packed with slapstick, mistaken identity, misguided love, and wild mishaps.
The Three Munschketeers
Based on stories by Robert Munsch
adapted by Debbie Patterson
August 11th – 15th at 11am
Who doesn’t have a fond memory conjured by a favourite Robert Munsch title? This zany, fast-paced show is based on five Munsch stories and is the perfect way to introduce the community’s little ones to the wonder of the theatre.
Enjoy Crescent Beach in a new way and take in a show before the summer ends.
