August Events in Surrey

The countdown to the end of summer may have started, but it’s not time to put away those flip-flops and sunglasses just yet!  Hot days and warm August nights are the perfect time to get out into Surrey’s natural beauty and celebrate with friends and family.  Amazing theatrical presentations and outdoor movies, farmers markets, and live music promise to make this August the best ever!

Beach House Theatre

The Beach House Theatre has married al fresco theatre with one of Surrey’s most magnificent landmarks … picturesque Crescent Beach. In fact, it’s hard to picture anything more beautiful than Crescent Beach on a summer evening, unless of course, you imagine the sprawling shore and its unspoiled view as the breathtaking backdrop to some of Shakespeare’s best-loved plays. This August, the talented crew at Beach House Theatre will be mesmerizing audiences with one of the greatest love stories ever told, Romeo & Juliet (August 13 – 18) and for the younger audiences Love You Forever … and More Munsch (Aug 14 – 17), based on classic Robert Munsch stories.

Movies Under the Stars

Movies are always better when watched late at night, and summer is best spent outdoors. So why not do both at Movies Under the Stars? Spend the evening with family and friends on a mini-picnic while watching popular kid-friendly movies. Bring those comfy chairs and cozy blankets, and join in on this free cinema night with the community.

August 10 – How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World
August 17 – The Lego Movie 2
August 24 – Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse

Farmers Markets

With the warmer months come Surrey’s bounty of fresh local produce just waiting to be devoured. After all, 30 percent of Surrey’s land is dedicated to agriculture and committed to local food growing. So it’s no surprise that there are a variety of Farmers Markets peppered across the city where you can pick-and-choose your weekly produce pickup.

Clayton Community Market – August 11 & 25, Sep 8 & 22, Oct 6
Cloverdale Market Days – August 24, September 21
Surrey Urban Farmers Market – Saturdays until Oct 5
Kwantlen Street Farmers Market – Saturdays until Sep 21

Sounds of Summer

The sweet sounds of live and local music will be wafting through the fresh air in Surrey’s parks each and every Wednesday evening, and select Friday afternoons, this Summer. With genres that range from Folk, Blues and Motown to Big Band and Rat Pack standards and everything in between, there’s a free concert for all types of music genres. Bring your own seating or sway to the music, it’s all up to you! Visit the Sound of Summer website for the full schedule, including locations and performers, and to find out which events are pet-friendly.

Street Dance at Civic Plaza

Summer is a great time to let loose and find your rhythm, and the City of Surrey loves to bust a move so much that they’ve introduced a new weekly summer event series: Street Dance at Civic Plaza. Every Thursday in August, from 12noon to 4:00 pm, Civic Plaza outside City Hall transforms into a huge dance stage with an open, outdoor practice/cypher session and free workshops led by some of the best dancers in Surrey.
